Federal Resources

  • DBTAC Northwest ADA Information Center1-800-949-4232 one of ten regional ADA Information Centers that provide ADA information, training and technical assistance, including the Consumer Toolkit is designed for people with disabilities to learn how the ADA applies to their lives and how to learn to follow the process so that your rights are insured.
  • Disability.gov – a comprehensive online resource designed to provide people with disabilities with quick and easy access to information. Provides access to disability-related information and programs available across the government on numerous subjects, including benefits, civil rights, community life, education, employment, housing, health, technology and transportation.
  • Health and Human Services Office on Disability (OD) – Oversees the implementation and coordination of disability programs, policies and special initiatives pertaining to the over 54 million persons with disabilities in the United States.
  • Job Accommodation Network (JAN)1-800-526-7234 (Voice);1-877-781-9403 (TTY). JAN provides free consulting services for individuals with physical or intellectual limitations that affect employment. Services include one-on-one consultation about job accommodation ideas, requesting and negotiating accommodations, and rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related laws. Although JAN does not help individuals find employment, JAN does provide information for job seekers.
  • USDOL Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP)1-866-633-7365 Employer Policy Team examines the issues facing employers as they seek to hire, accommodate and advance employees with disabilities. This team works to shape disability employment policies that meet the needs of employers and people with disabilities. Disseminates effective employer practices and articulates the unique perspectives of businesses regarding the employment of people with disabilities.
  • U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission1-800-669-4000 the EEOC enforces the ADA’s employment provisions. The section of its Web site titled “Disability Discrimination” provides access to numerous publications, including several specifically designed to answer your questions about your employment rights as an individual with a disability.

WA State Resources

  • Client Assistance Program (CAP) – 1-800-544-2121 (Voice); 1-888-721-6072 (TTY). An advocacy program providing information about: the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the Department of Services for the Blind (DSB), the Independent Living Programs (ILP’s), and the Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Programs; CAP explains your rights and responsibilities as an applicant or client of these rehabilitation agencies. CAP Works to solve problems through negotiation, offers information about the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), offers information about social security benefits, and offers individualized advocacy services including assistance with administrative proceedings.
  • Plan to Work – Plan to Work is a benefit planning project funded through the Work Incentive Planning and Assistance (WIPA) program under the Social Security Administration. Plan to Work works with individuals who are receiving disability benefits who have questions about how employment will impact benefits.
  • The Governors Committee on Disability and Employment – provides statewide advocacy and leadership to empower the disability community to obtain equality of opportunity and maximum independence. The section for job seekers includes information about benefits and job training programs.
  • Washington State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation – The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) provides employment services and counseling to individuals with disabilities who want to work but experience barriers to work because of a physical, sensory, and/or mental disability.
  • Washington State Division of Developmental Disabilities – The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) assists individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to obtain services and supports, including employment support, based on individual preference, capabilities and needs.
  • Washington State Department of Services for the Blind (DSB) – Washington State DSB provides services, including job counseling and adaptive skills training, to individuals who are blind or have low vision.
  • Washington Connection – A web-based benefit portal that offers a way to find and apply for a variety of programs and services and assistance online, that you or your family may be qualified to receive from various state, federal or local resources.

Other Resources

  • The ARC of King County – offers information, individualized consultation and referral support about community and government resources regarding intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
  • Open Doors for Multicultural Families – utilizes bilingual and bicultural staff to provide culturally and linguistically relevant information, services, and programming to culturally and linguistically diverse families of persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
